District office of Neukölln / Berlin – Department of Education, Schools and Sport
The Department of Education, Schools and Sport is in charge of public schools in the district of Neukölln and therefore
responsible for the organization of school education, including the choice and of number the school locations.
This also involves the responsibility to ensure that the children attend school within the framework of compulsory
education.
Senate Department of Education, Youth and Science – Regional School Supervisory Board of Neukölln
The Regional School Supervisory Board of Neukölln is the regional department of the school supervisory board of
the Senate Department of Education, Youth and Science of the Land of Berlin: It supervises 37 primary schools, 12
secondary schools, 6 grammar schools and 9 special education centres. Its responsibilities include school and quality
development, personnel development, implementation of the didactic and educational guidelines, conflict and crisis
management as well as „networking“ for schools and non-school partners.
District office of Neukölln / Berlin – Youth Welfare Office
The Youth Welfare Office organizes and co-ordinates the estimation of the demand, the choice of sponsors, the
implementation of school social work at the school, the description of offered services, quality development
and description. An essential prerequisite is the close co-operation with the education authority and the school
supervisory board.
Zuckmayer school
Zuckmayer school is an integrated secondary school (years 7 to 10). It is the result of a merger of a lower secondary
school and a secondary modern school in the summer of 2010. The share of pupils with a migration background is
approximately 90%. School social work has been offered at the school since 2006.
Hans-Fallada school
Hans-Fallada school is a co-operation school consisting of a primary school, grades 1 to 6 and a special education
centre with focus on „learning support“. In the primary school, the share of pupils with a migration background is
approximately 88%, while in the special education centre it is around 65%. The special education centre has been
offering school social work since 2007. A school station was installed in the primary school in 2009.
TandemBQG
Tandem BQG is a non-profit employment and qualification association. At present, tandem BQG has a staff of 60
and provides school social work at 40 schools in Berlin. The staff are qualified socio-pedagogical professionals and
promote the social integration of disadvantaged pupils. They offer low-threshold advice and support to the pupils
and their parents at the school. A special focus of the staff is the prevention of school refusal/truancy. They co-
operate closely with the services of the Youth Welfare Office and their network partners in the districts.
Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für sozial-kulturelle Arbeit mbH
GskA organizes youth social work and school social work. At several school locations, GskA offers services through so-
called learner clubs. The learner clubs cover the fields of work with parents, open offers for pupils and social learning.
EuropaBeratung Berlin (Zukunftsbau)
EuropaBeratung Berlin (EBB) is an agency for European project development that approaches persons with
educational responsibility in administration and management bodies, schools, educational institutes and enterprises.
EBB primarily provides advice about European funding programmes in the areas of education and youth. Zukunftsbau
is a non-profit organization for qualification and employment. On behalf of the Senate Department of Education,
Youth and Science, Zukunftsbau is project partner of EBB.
