The Youth Section of the Provincial Government of Styria is the specialist department of youth work at the office of
the provincial government. It deals with extramural youth work. Since one year, the co-ordinator for school social
work has also been based there.
Municipal education authority of Graz MB
The municipal education authority is the maintainer (and therefore also the entity in charge) of the public compulsory
education institutions (primary schools, secondary modern schools, polytechnical school) in Graz. It is responsible for
school buildings, installations and administrative procedures and channels the flow of pupils. In addition, it supports
the educational mission of the schools with numerous projects including school social work.
District school inspectorate / Graz MB 1
The school district GRAZ MB 1 developed the “school social work GRAZ” project in 2009.
During the project development phase, ISOP’s ten-year experience with school social work was a valuable resource.
The starting point was the ISOP’s “COME ON” project. School social workers are neutral persons with an autonomous
field of responsibilities. School social work is a compensatory, co-operative concept that offers pupils, teachers and
parents advice, support and assistance in the schools.
NMS St. Andrä
The new secondary school is an amalgamated school for 10 to 14-year olds. The school model of the new secondary
school regards the school as a learning and living space for children – a place to explore the meaning of knowledge
acquisition in school and how it links in with the personal living situation, how it influences future perspectives,
and also a place to reflect on the increasing heterogeneity in all areas of society. The school model promotes a
civilized treatment of pupils of different social, national and ethnic origin to actively prevent social marginalization
and xenophobia. Between 1997 and 2007, NMS St. Andrä participated in the ”Schulsozialarbeit-come on” project.
Since 2009, it has had school social workers at the school on an ongoing basis.
NMS Algersdorf
The new secondary school is a school Algersdorf in Graz-West, in which the optimal promotion of individual interests
and talents of the students at the center.
It is a common school of 10 - to 14-year-old children. The acquisition of knowledge is pursuing the goal of a sound
general education and the strengthening of basic skills for all and prepares students specifically for the different
needs in secondary schools and professional world. school social workers assists children and young people in the
process of growing up.
ISOP – Innovative Social Projects
ISOP INNOVATIVE SOCIAL PROJECTS is an intercultural, independent non-profit organization and has been
advocating equal opportunities in society and the labour market since 1987 by initiating and implementing youth,
social, education and cultural projects. It promotes distributive justice through an active social, labour market and
education policy and promotes human rights and integration in refugee and migration matters. ISOP has many years
of experience with the implementation of projects for young persons. Its activities range from streetwork and mobile
youth work to the management of the Checkpoint youth waiting room in Bruck as well as school social work in Graz
and in the district of Bruck a. d Mur.
STVG – Steirische Volkswirtschaftliche Gesellschaft (Styrian Association for Education and Economy
Education and economy is the main focus of Steirische Volkswirtschaftliche Gesellschaft. It offers seminars for pupils,
apprentices and students. It carries out regional, national and European projects at the interfaces and points of
contact between the world of education and the economy, co-operating closely with economic institutions and
businesses, schools and ministries, with associations and public bodies.
Apart from career orientation measures, it carries out and co-ordinates support systems in school – for instance
school social work in Austria.
